IPoE Information and Configuration

Post by osvaldotcf »

Greetings.
I'm from Brazil and we have your project in very high regard for PPPoE.

I would like information about how IPoE work on your project. Could you make an explanation of the involved Hartware, client and server? I need vlan support on client?
The hardware client only needs to be set to dhcp and send the specification "option 82"?
Could you exemplify the network configuration for IPoE, client and server?
We can use a RouterBOARD Mikrotik as IPoE (DHCP) Relay?

Sorry my english.

Thank you so very much.

sorry, documentation is only available on russian here http://accel-ppp.org/wiki/doku.php?id=ru:ipoe
i will translate it to english when will have time

briefy regarding your questions
accel-ppp may work in L2 or L3 connected environment, sessions may be started by DHCPv4 or by unclassified packets (in case statically assigned addresses or external dhcp server)
L2 - means that clients are operating in single ethernet segment, that may be shared segment (many clients in segments) or single user in segment (typically vlan per user)
L3 - means that clients are placed behind some router

to identify client option 82 may be used from dhcp packet or in case vlan per user interface name may be identifier

DHCP information for client may be acquired from radius, from config or from external dhcp (in such case accel-ppp acts as relay)

you can visit link to russian documentation to look typical configuratrions

for further information please ask more exact questions

Thank you so very much.
Your project seems to be a path that could unify wired and wireless networks.
In our country, Brazil, we have many small Internet providers.

It is common to put radios in the last mile and routerboards Mikrotik linked to Freeradius to AAA using PPPoE or "Hotspot Mikrotik".
We no longer want or use PPPoE nor the Horspot and the option of using IPoE is a great horizon.

I imagine that in our case, we have:

##########################################################------- <Radio (Ip)>
<RADIUS + Postgres>------<ACCEL-PPP> ------- <Rb MK (Relay)> ----- <
##########################################################------- <FTTx (Bridge)> --- <UserBox(Ip)>

I will study your solution.
Thank you so much.
