Cannot achieve maximum bandwidth on link.

Post by AbduSami »

We are connecting our accel machine (accel-ppp-1.10.3), deployed on an ubuntu VM (16.04), to a rp-client setup on another server. The link between the two servers is 10G and we have verified it by running iperf.
When we establish the PPPoE connection between rp-client and Accel the bandwidth decreases to 2 Gbps. Even if we increase the bandwidth assigned to a client or increase the number of clients, the total bandwidth on the link does not increase more than 2 Gbps. What could be the problem for this bandwidth issue using pppoe protocol?

Hi, do you use RPS, RFS, balance irq?

No we are not using RPS, RFS or balance IRQ. This should not be a problem when using a single client for generating traffic.
We also increased the size of the interface queue from 3 to 1,000 to no effect.

Ok, please show "top" and ethtool -S eth1 on bandwidth test.
ps:// change eth1 to used network interface

'ethtool -S ppp0' is not detecting the interface made through pppoe connection.

Is there a limit of PPPoE protocol at 1Gbps bandwidth?

unlikely, there is no any limits
